Hughie Earlin Alford

Denham Springs, LA – Hughie E. Alford, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on June 16, 2025, following a brief illness. He was 89 years old.

Born on October 10, 1935, in Philadelphia, Mississippi, Hughie honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Following his military service, he enjoyed a long career with Shell Chemical in Geismar, where he later retired.

Hughie is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Sue Herbert Alford. Together, they celebrated both their wedding anniversary and Father’s Day the day before his passing.

He is also survived by his daughters: Terri (David) Ketterer, Tracy (Garry) Talbert, and Julie (Andrew) Norris; his grandchildren: Jason Benoit, Hannah Benoit, Bobby (Rose) Ketterer, Daniel Ketterer, Matthew White, Lauren White, Ja’Cobey Lee, Adam Norris, and Ryan Norris; and his great-grandchild, Ryatt White.

Hughie leaves behind his siblings: Jerry (Betty) Alford, Billie (Paul) Peden, and Judy Gray; his brother-in-law, Bill (Monie) Herbert; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubbard Alford and Lavelle Ferguson Alford, his brother, Jesse Alford, his sister, Sandra Alford Cumberland, and two nephews, Michael Herbert and Michael Gray.

Visitation will be held at Abundant Life Church in Denham Springs on Thursday, June 19th, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a service at 1:00 PM. Interment will take place Friday, June 20th, at 11:00 AM at Louisiana National Cemetery.
