Johnie Merle Watkins Pearson was born to Sadie Williams Watkins and Jonhie Will Watkins on July 5, 1934 in Carriere, MS. She passed away at Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge, LA on May 29, 2023. She was a long time resident of Baton Rouge and loved being a part of this city. She will love Heaven even more and we look forward to also being embraced by our loving Heavenly Father to join her in more long visits. We all will miss her until that time. Johnie is preceded in death by her parents; a son – George A. Smith, Jr., son – Richard J. Fletcher, sister, Doris Watkins Arbour, Brother-in-Law, Harold Arbour, beloved relatives. She is survived by her son, Robert Jonathan Fletcher of Nashville, TN, Great-grandson, Gage Zito, a sister and brother-in-Law, Mr. and Mrs. (Virginia Watkins) Manno of Baton Rouge, daughter in heart, Mrs. Michael (Luzmelia) Burroughs, many precious and dearly loved grand children and great-grandchildren. Special thanks to her physicians and caring medical professionals and all at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. A memorial will be held at Lanier Baptist Church to be officiated by Senior Pastor Michael “Mike” Ferguson, Sr. on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at One O’clock in the Afternoon. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be given to Lanier Baptist Church or Lanier Christian Academy in Baton Rouge, La.
