Regina Louise McKernan, affectionately known as Jina to her loved ones, peacefully passed away on January 8, 2024, in Pride, Louisiana. Born on September 22, 1945, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she leaves behind cherished memories that will forever be held in our hearts.
Jina was an extraordinary woman who led a fulfilling life marked by her spunky, precious, and faithful nature. Her character was deeply influenced by her loving disposition and strong Christian faith. She held her family in the highest regard, demonstrating unwavering love and devotion to them. Jina shared a unique and special bond with her toy poodle, Joy, whose companionship brought her immense joy. Known for her open-hearted generosity, she made friends effortlessly, leaving a lasting impact on all those she encountered.
Throughout her career, Jina devoted herself to aiding others at Lane Memorial Hospital. Her unwavering commitment and diligent efforts paved the way for a successful professional journey, culminating in her well-deserved retirement from her position.
During her leisure hours, Jina delighted in a variety of hobbies. Cultivating a green thumb, she found solace in gardening, tending to the beauty of nature. Antique shopping held a special place in her heart, as she took pleasure in uncovering unique treasures with a keen eye. Additionally, Jina found comfort in sipping tea while immersing herself in her favorite pastime—reading.
Jina’s faith was an integral part of her life, providing her with a profound sense of peace and purpose. She found solace and a sense of community at her place of worship, Live Oak Church, where she attended.
Jina is survived by her two sons, Jerry McKernan (Connie) and Scott McKernan (Angie), along with her cherished grandchildren: Jaclyn Waldron (Thomas), Jessica Tillman (Zach), Karlee McKernan, and Caleb McKernan. Her great-grandchildren, Gemma Louise Waldron and Johnny Waldron, brought her immense joy and were a source of pride for her. Jina is also survived by her sisters, Sandie Gossman (Bill) and Dolly Blewett, and her brothers-in-law, Grant Ley and Joe Ley (Donna).
Jina is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry McKernan; her father, Regis Troxell; mother, Florence “Peg” Troxell; brother, Jim Troxell; brother-in-law, Tom Blewett; niece, Sandra Blewett; and her mother-in-law, Betty Gonano.
Jina’s memory will eternally live in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will be remembered for her vibrant personality, unwavering faith, and profound love for her family. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who held her dear.

A memorial service will be held Saturday January 20, 2024 at Live Oak Church in Watson, visitation will be from 9:30 AM-11:00 AM with memorial service starting at 11:00 AM.
