Carol Smith Wilson, 82 of Baton Rouge, Louisiana peacefully passed away at her home Friday, March 8th, 2024. Born in Laurel, Mississippi on February 3rd, 1942. In Carol’s 82 years she dabbled in several career choices from a successful real estate agent, a fiberglass wicker furniture manufacturer / manager, a certified licensed florist, and a process operator for DSM Copolymer where she retired after 12 years of service.
Carol always preached that people wait for opportunities; opportunities don’t wait for people. With that being said, the opportunity to be of service with FEMA became available in 2005, after hurricane Katrina, where she served for five years, assisting with national disasters all over the United States, before she decided to finally retire.
She is survived by her best friend and daughter, Jennifer Lei (Jenni) Wilson, sisters Bobbie Stone and Martha Rickerfor, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Proceeded in death by her beloved sons Joseph Dwight Wilson and Jeffrey Travis Wilson, parents Thyra and Herman Smith, daughter-in-law Mary Ann Wilson, ex-husband / friend Travis Madison (Bud) Wilson, brother in-law Robert Stone, brother in-law Ronnie Rickerfor, ex-sister-in-law / friend Jean Humphrey, brother Robert (Buster) Smith, sister-in-law Susie Smith, sister Bennie and brother in-law W.M. Watkins.
There will be a private family farewell gathering at a later date.
We’d like to ask those of you who knew Carol Wilson, nicknamed “Highline”, that next time you have a good cup of coffee or smell fresh flowers, just remember what a difference she made, just by being her.

Jenni,
My prayers and condolences are with you at this challenging time. 2 Corinthians 5:8 says, “To be absent from the body and be present with the Lord.” Let your mother’s infectious wit and the joyous memories sustain you. As I sit and raise my cup of coffee in honor of Mrs. Carol, I can hear the Lord say, “Well done, good and faithful servant; enter into the joy of your lord.” Matthew 25:23 Remember, when you only see one set of footprints in the sand, God is carrying you!

My sweet friend since childhood. I can’t remember when I didn’t know Carol. She and I were together constantly as schoolmates and as neighbors. There wasn’t anything we did not share with each other. As we grew older, we went separate ways, but still remained in touch for many years. I will never forget all the happy times we had together, and I will always love her.

Oh, Jenni…what a precious soul she was to all of us. She was the light in the room and so much fun to be with. I’m so sad that she is gone from this world. Go forward bravely and know no more pain. Love , Peb

Carol was a force to be reckoned with, for sure. She spoiled me rotten with her cooking and terrified me when she caught me and Jenny crossing Greenwell Springs Road, as kids.
I’m sure Heaven smells of coffee right now, and there’s so many loved ones happy to see her.
