March 29, 1944 ~ June 15, 2024

Vicki Jean Savoy passed away peacefully, in her sleep, the morning of Saturday, June 15, 2024, with loved ones at her side. Loved ones who find comfort knowing she has been healed by our Heavenly Father but will mourn her absence from their lives.

Vicki was born on March 29, 1944, in Jackson, MS. During her childhood she moved to Biloxi, MS to live with her aunt, Helen Jolly and cousin, Julee Pearce. She went to Biloxi High School where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Nolan Savoy.

After marriage, they moved to Baton Rouge, LA to raise their family. While Vicki was fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom to raise her children, she did help run the family businesses. Savoy’s Snowball stand which was a hangout for the neighborhood kids for many years, and Savoy’s Sewer Service. After her youngest graduated High School, she went to work for the East Baton Rouge School System where she worked as an art teacher at Sharon Hills Elementary School. She was an incredibly talented artist, and it gave her immense joy sharing her love of art with the children. She also made many long-lasting friendships with the staff members at Sharon Hills during the time she taught there.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Nolan Savoy; Children, Dawn Robert (Don), Belinda Croswell (DeWitt), Aaron Savoy (fiancée Chelsea); grandchildren, Taylor Smith (Cory), Jordan Duhe (Eddie), Danielle Croswell, Bradley Croswell (fiancée Christine), Madison Turner (Christian) and great-granddaughter, Charlee Smith. She is also survived by her cousin, Julee Pearce, whom she thought of as a sister.

She is preceded in death by her aunt, Helen Jolly who raised her to be the loving, kindhearted woman she became. She is also preceded in death by her father, Victor DeVeer and mother, Betty Corey.

Never cross, never unpleasant, Vicki had an ease about her that was felt beyond her interactions with people. Vicki loved animals, and they loved her back. Her son’s friends often joked that she was a Disney Princess due to how frequently all manner of “wild” critters would approach her without fear. The language of a peaceful and generous heart is universal. It is in this regard that we humbly request that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Companion Animal Alliance at https://www.caabr.org/donate.

Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation for Vicki on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, from 9:00am – 11:00am at Magnolia United Methodist Church, 16024 Greenwell Springs, LA 70739, followed by a memorial service at 11:00am. All are invited to join the family following the memorial service in the church fellowship hall for refreshments.

Some of us seek to, in some way, leave our mark on the world. Others seem to easily glide into doing wonderful things with seemingly little effort. I watched Vicki Savoy etch her way into children’s hearts while assisting them in building academic skills with her soft ease and quiet patience. But one of my best memories was of the child-sized posters that Vicki had each student help her to create. Their likenesses, complete with their particular hairstyle and clothing, we’re hung around the auditorium at the grade-level end-of-year awards ceremony. That day, like on so many others, children added to Vicki’s treasure chest filled with their hugs and laughter. Vicki, you are absolutely part of my treasured memories. Our small piece of the world will miss your gentle kindness, and most importantly, it will miss you. God bless and keep your family during this difficult time.

Dear Mr. Nolan, Belinda, Dawn and Aaron, I feel like a part of my childhood is gone as Mrs. Vickie was our neighbor and family friend for so many years. So many great memories of her. She was loved by everyone who knew her. She was a wonderful friend to my Mom. Thank you so much Mrs. Vickie for all you did for friends, family, our neighborhood and church. You will be missed but never forgotten. We loved her greatly. God bless her on a life lived to the fullest!!!

The picture of Vicki is radiant with her incredible smile. After reading the condensed version of her life, I wish I had known her through the years. A remarkable woman and her children display that legacy. Thank you for the very brief walk through her life. She will be missed and remembered by many.

It was so wonderful growing up with Vicki. When I would say she’s my cousin I always followed it with but she’s really like my sister. She was so kind to everyone. I don’t think I ever heard her say an unkind word against anyone. I love you Vicki and I always will.
