“Whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord” Romans 14:8

Dorothy was welcomed into the Lord’s open arms August 26, 2024 at the age of 100. Surrounded by her devoted caretaker, Olevia, best friend, Joan, and loving niece, Patricia. She had long awaited death and was ready in heart and soul to enter Heaven’s gate.

She lived independently with assistance provided by Olevia Richardson, Debra Bolt, and Ann Smith to whom we are forever grateful. In recent years she enjoyed her morning coffee, followed by the newspaper and reading fiction novels. She kept her mind fresh at all times. Dorothy traveled the world in early years, having  a love of the Hot Springs mountains where she wishes to have her ashes scattered.

Born December 3, 1923 in Franklin, LA to parents, Hattie Greely Romero and Emil Robert Hartman Brupbacher, both now deceased. In 1942, at the age of 18, she was recruited by the War Department to work at the Pentagon, Washington D.C. to help in the restoration program to rebuild war torn areas in Europe. After WWII, she returned to Baton Rouge to study accounting at LSU. Her career in accounting and tax preparation lasted over 50 years, keeping books for well known businesses in the Baton Rouge area – Frank’s Restaurant, Graham Engines, and Esnards Jewelers to name a few. Dorothy actively held offices in many social and business organizations. President of Baton Rouge Business and Professional Women’s Organization 1975 to 1976 and she was honored with Woman of Achievement Award in 1981.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Emil D. Brupbacher Sr.;  sisters-in-law, Sarah Elston Brupbacher and Mattie Joyce Darr Brupbacher; stepbrothers, Ned and Sidney Romero; nephew, Jack R. Brupbacher; and her beloved dog, “Blue”.

She is survived by loving nieces and a nephew and their families, Emil Brupbacher Jr. (Nancy(), Linda Susan Ortiz (Rudy), and Patricia Burkett (Glynn), good friend, Joan Ervin who checked in on her daily.

A memorial service will held Saturday, September 21, at St. James Episcopal Church, Baton Rouge, where Dorothy was a faithful member and servant, at 11 a.m. sharp, followed by refreshments. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to St. James Episcopal Church, 205 N. 4th Street, Baton Rouge, LA 70821.

      Yes, she was!
She did a lot during her lifetime to get better women’s rights, equal pay, and recognition for the Business and Professional Women in Louisiana.
