October 24, 1942 – November 24, 2024

Robert C. Smith, 82, a resident of Watson, passed away on November 24, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.

Robert is survived by his much-loved children Daryl, Lavonne (Matthew Alexander), John (Tina), Valerie (Alton Blount), Tonya Betz, and grandchildren Misty, Justin, Kurt, Kevin, Megan, Samantha, Elaina, Jacob, William (Billy), Zachary, Kacie, Melane, Nicholette, Preston, Brayden, Olivia, and Dalton along with numerous great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Yvonne Beeson and brothers James, William (Willie) and Charles.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia, parents Tommy and Mildred, siblings Marceline Shaidaee and Tommy Jr. and daughter-in-law Susie.

Robert worked for many years as a large diesel equipment mechanic on the Mississippi River where he was known as one of the best mechanics in the stevedoring industry. He also raised beef cattle on his farm with his best friend and brother Willie and their beloved little boss, great-granddaughter Alaynna Marler. He enjoyed being at home on his farm sitting outside under the pecan tree with family and friends, usually with a big pot of something cooking! What was cooking didn’t matter, hanging around enjoying conversations, laughter, and time together was all that did. He will be truly and sorely missed. There are more people than can be named who were loved and loved Robert in return.

The family would like to especially thank his dear friend Shelley Wintz for caring and sharing time with Dad.

Relatives and friends are invited to join the family at New Bethlehem Baptist Church, 37818 Reinninger Road, Denham Springs, LA on Saturday, November 30, 2024 from 9:00 AM until the funeral service at 12:00 PM. Graveside service and burial will follow at New Bethlehem Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to Robert’s favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

I wish you all peace and comfort. I was lucky to have him as an uncle and have only fond memories of him.
