February 2, 1934 – December 2, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn Gayle Duncan Rye, beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted LSU sports fan, who peacefully passed away on December 2, 2024, at the age of 90. Marilyn was born on February 2, 1934, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to loving parents who instilled in her a lifelong love for education, family, and community.

Marilyn attended Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, where she was an active member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, forging lasting friendships that would enrich her life for decades. Her passion for LSU sports was well-known, and she was a loyal supporter of the Tigers, always cheering on her team with enthusiasm and spirit.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Joseph L. Rye. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Marilyn is survived by her daughter Tracey Lee Rye Wilson; her grandchildren, Michelle Renee Folse, Rachel Marie David, and Taylor Armand Wilson; as well as her great-granddaughter Rylee Jo Folse. She also leaves behind nieces and extended family members, who will remember her for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Barbara and Gil Gilliam, Stephanie Castracane, Steven Gilliam, and Charmaine Juneau for their compassion and care during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Disabled Veterans of America at help.dav.org, in honor of Marilyn’s deep respect for those who serve and sacrifice for our country.

A graveside service will be held on December 7, 2024, at 12:00 pm at Roselawn Cemetery. Marilyn will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Joseph, where they will be reunited for eternity.

Marilyn’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her, and her legacy will continue to inspire those who share her love for family, community, and LSU.

My mother always stood up for me, cheered me on in my gymnastics and dance, and shared her love of LSU with me. Teaching me about football, basketball and softball. My mother was a tomboy and loved playing softball. As I grew up she taught me how to cook, loved my children, Michelle, Rachel, and Taylor with all of her heart. I will forever be broken by her passing, but know she will always be with my father and her parents and siblings may you rest in peace and look over my family as a guiding angel. I love you, Mom and I will miss you forever.

My heart aches as a part of me has left this earth. Gram, you were my biggest champion, my safe haven, and my sunshine. You loved me unconditionally, always listened, and were the one I could confide in without hesitation. I will carry you with me forever, and I know you’re now reunited with Pappaw. Rest in peace, Gram. I love you always.
