Bradley Amos Sweet passed away at his home in Denham Springs, LA on December 21, 2024. He was born in Charlottesville, Virginia on March 3, 1937. He loved many things including gardening, astronomy, cats and being married. He was a member of the Planetarium Society, the American Horticultural Society, and the Kennedy Center. After graduating High School in College Park, MD Brad graduated from the University of MD with a degree in Horticulture and attended Penn State before joining the Army. After his service was complete, he joined the US Park Service as a Gardener for a year then worked for the DC government as a Supervisory Horticulturist for 31 years before retiring. He met his wife, Joyce at church when they were in high school and they went their separate ways for 65 years until they reconnected in 2020. Brad sold his house and moved from Dunkirk, MD to Denham Springs, LA in December 2021 and they were married on 1/11/22.
Brad is preceded in death by his parents Amos Robert Sweet and Evelyn Elizabeth Lynham Sweet.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Audrey Meinhardt Raynie Sweet, his stepsons Richard (and Clayton), Stephen (and Joanne) and James (and Mary), 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. His half-brothers Palmer (and Judy) Sweet, Frank (and Joyce) Sweet, and half-sister Darby (and Ron) Reynolds.
The family would like to thank the various caregivers over the past 2 years and expresses special thanks to Raymie and Zachary who helped him in his final days.
Services will be held at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 726 Maple Street, Denham Springs, LA 70726 on Saturday, December 28, 2024. Viewing will begin at noon followed by the service at 1:00pm.
Donations may be made in Brad’s name to the American Heart Association.
