2025ObituariesBrian Houghes

January 14, 2025by SealeUser0

Robert Brian Houghes, 55, of Denham Springs, Louisiana, passed away suddenly on January 11, 2025. He was, above all, a much-loved father and husband. He was born in Mineral Wells, Texas, to Robert and Sharon Houghes. Brian was Catholic, and a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denham Springs, Louisiana. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He graduated from Louisiana State University-Shreveport with a bachelor’s degree in marketing.

Brian worked for Splash Pools and Spas for many years, since college. Throughout his years there, many of his customers became close friends. He had a way about him of making people feel peace when they were with him. He listened to them. He prayed with them. He never saw his customers as just customers. He saw them as friends. He approached everyone he met at work with the goal of getting to know them.

Brian loved to travel, especially to the beach. He loved to experience the world around him and share it with his sons and wife. He found peace praying the Angelus and the Rosary daily. He deeply loved Jesus. He loved to cook, especially grilling. Most of all he found great joy in doing for others; be it at work, at church, in public for strangers, but especially at home for his wife and sons.

Brian loved his church so much. He considered every one there family. He would often help them out in any way that was needed, by frying fish, lighting Christmas trees, fixing a parishioner’s fence, and praying for anyone who had a need of prayer. He absolutely loved helping others and never wanted any recognition for his deeds.

Brian’s greatest loves here on earth were his wife and sons. He loved them with his whole heart. He strived every day to be a better husband and father than the day before. He worked so hard for them. He loved so much sharing experiences with them and would often find the most incredible things to experience. But he could make a walk at a park an enduring memory.

He loved his family, both those here and those who had passed on. He was extremely passionate about his family’s genealogy, and would often tell stories of his parents, grandparents or other ancestors. He felt a real passion for keeping their stories alive.

Brian made our simple life extraordinary. Those who knew him well couldn’t help but love him. He brought love to everyone he met.

Brian is preceded in death by his parents, brother, mother-in-law, father-in-law, and brother-in-law. He is survived by his wife, Deborah, who loved him with her whole heart, and his sons, Joseph and Grayson, who thought their dad was the absolute best dad ever and loved him greatly, his sister-in-law, Susan Bogard, his aunts, uncles, cousins, and his beloved niece and nephews.

Rosary and visitation will begin at 10:30am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Denham Springs, Saturday, January 25 until the Mass of Christian Burial at 1pm.

The family wishes to thank all those who have been praying for Brian and the family. Also, thanks to those who have reached out to tell them how much Brian affected their lives. It has been overwhelming to see how much you all loved Brian. And we will carry your words in our hearts forever. Also, thank you to Father Joseph Bresowar for quickly coming to be with our family at the hospital and giving us so much comfort. Our friends, our beloved family of friends, we thank you for showing up for us in so many ways since Brian’s passing. It is a true testament to how much Brian meant to you and this life.
