William Emmett Dunnington III

“Emmett was a man of few words but loved with his whole heart. He will be deeply missed.”

Emmett “Butch” Dunnington, 79, of Baton Rouge, passed away peacefully in his sleep in Katy, Texas. Although he had a gruff exterior, Emmett touched many lives with his wit, ingenuity, and kind heart.

A 1964 graduate of Istrouma High School, Emmett proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1969, including a tour in Vietnam. In 1966, he married the love of his life, Faye Prather, and they later settled in Greenwell Springs.

Emmett found joy in fishing, hunting, gardening, and visiting friends at the VFW Hall.

He is survived by his daughter Becky Smith, son Darren Dunnington, brother Mark Dunnington, granddaughter Madison Nelson, grandson Kyle Smith, and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Faye, his parents Eula and Emmett, and his brother Ricky.

Visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs on Friday, February 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a graveside service at Amite Baptist Church Cemetery.
