1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

It is with profound sadness that the Garner family announces the passing of Scott after a merciless fight with lung cancer. Scott was diagnosed with cancer in August 2024 and, having pre-existing conditions, made for a hard fight. We only had him for 64 years but we cherish every day we had with him.

Scott was born in Alexandria but lived in the Jackson-Clinton area for many years until moving to Baton Rouge for health reasons in 2018.

Scott worked as a master mechanic for Gulf States Utilities until their merger with Entergy. His co-workers called him “Pinky” for the glow he got welding. After that, he certified in and maintained instrumentation and calibration processes for several local companies. He eventually certified as an electrician with the United States Postal Service which he retired from in 2020.

Scott met Brenda Britt in 1980. It was love at first sight for both of them. They married on February 20, 1982, and raised the best three sons anyone could ask for together. Shaun, Timothy, and Daniel were always a big help to their parents. Brenda passed away in August 2022. They had been married for 40 years.

Scott had always been involved in his sons’ baseball and martial arts activities and he continued to be involved in their auto projects and anything else they were interested in.

“My father didn’t tell me how to live. He lived and let me watch him do it.” – Clarence B. Kelland

Scott had a generous heart and was always ready to help. Many people have expressed how knowing him helped them to become who they are today. He was a character who went his own way but was greatly loved by those who knew him well. You either got him or you did not, and it was pointless to try to change him. He was one sharp redhead to be dealt with but extremely kind to those who needed it.

Scott was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda; his father, Keith Garner; his stepfather Frank H. Graham, lll; and all of his grandparents. He is survived by his mother, Lorraine S. Garner; his sister, Kimberly Garner; and his sons, Shaun, Timothy, and Daniel Garner; and a host of extended family including numerous cousins, old and new friends, his biker buddies, and his beloved fur babies.

Scott received The Anointing of the Sick in a prayer circle around his bed in the hospital. He passed away within weeks in a state of grace with the Lord.

“Death is not extinguishing the light, it is only putting out the lamp because dawn has come.” — Tagore Scott Garner was dearly loved and he will be dearly missed.
