January 19, 1931 ~ April 6, 2021
On April 6, 2021, Mrs. “Billie” Bullock passed away at her home in Baton Rouge following her courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was proud to reach the age of 90. Billie Ruth Franks was born on January 19, 1931 in Bunkie to Curtis Sumpter and Abbie Coco Franks. As a young girl, she lived on a plantation in Eola where her father and his extended family farmed. She attended Bunkie High School, married her first husband in 1950, and began her own family shortly after. Billie was intelligent, talented, and participated fully in all things. She enjoyed gardening, watching birds, playing golf, bowling, and exercising. She was an avid fan of all LSU sports. She traveled far and wide, and loved time spent with her friends at church, her neighbors and her family. She is survived by her children; William “Dennis” Hargroder Jr. (Marcie) of French Settlement, John “Bruce” Hargroder (Martha) of Clinton, and Steven Jay “Steve” Hargroder (Melissa) of Slaughter; her sister, Betty Sue James; her grandchildren, Brett Hargroder (Meghan) of Baton Rouge, Curt Hargroder (Angel) of New Iberia, Katie Petitto (Luke) of Greensburg, and Kyle Hargroder (Lindsay) of St. Francisville; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Curtis Carl and Bobby Daniel Franks, her sister Shirley Faye Lanier, and her three husbands – William D. “Billy” Hargroder Sr., “L. S.” Hodgeson, and Raymond Curtis “Ray” Bullock. A memorial service will be held in her honor at Broadmoor Baptist Church of Baton Rouge, date and time to be announced in the near future. Her ashes will be interred following a private service for immediate family at Green Oaks Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.
