Walker Elton Marsh, Sr passed from this life into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at 7:50 am on March 2, 2022 at his home in Walker, Louisiana, surrounded by his family and loved ones. He is survived by his three sisters, Vergie Borck, Alice Burr, and Aline Vit, all of Baton Rouge, his four children, Dr. Walker E. Marsh, Jr (wife, Joan Marsh) of Slidell, LA; Vera LeAnna Marsh Harris of Walker, LA; Julius McGowan “Mac” Marsh (wife, Jane Marsh) of Madison, MS, and Cliff Gordon Marsh  (wife, Anna Marsh) of Walker, LA as well as Grandchildren:  Angela Harris Lockhart,  Lori Harris Koonce, Kayla D. Harris, Cade Walker Marsh, Ivie Marsh Scott, Riley, Peyton, and Jaylen Powell, Matthew Marsh, Andrew Marsh, Kristi Marsh, Jarrod Marsh, Brendan Marsh, and Erin Marsh and  Great-grandchildren: Austin James Beck, Bronson Grant Beck, Demi Marie Lockhart, Beau Walker Lockhart, Cameron Seth Harris, Savannah Paige Koonce, Clover James Scott, Shepard Walker Scott, Set Lawson Marsh, and Madelyn Jane Marsh. Hewas preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Betty Joyce McGowan Marsh of Walker, LA, his father Thomas Walker Marsh of Many LA, his mother Florida Leanna Marsh Palmer of Anacoco, LA, his brother Earl Marsh of Anacoco, LA, and his sister Estelle Rogers, of Lake Charles, LA.

“Pawpaw” was born in Toro, LA and raised in Anacoco, LA. During his Senior Year at Anacoco High, he was drafted into the US Army and served in World War 2 as an artilleryman in the South Pacific, making the landings at Saipan & Tinian, Pelileu, Leyte and Mindanao and Okinawa. After his return from the war, he completed his high school education and graduated from Anacoco High School. After the war Pawpaw moved to Baton Rouge, LA where he found a job working as a welder for Solvay, Formosa Chemical and Allied Chemical while attending trade school at night to become a HVAC technician. After leaving the plant jobs he founded Marsh Refrigeration and worked for many years in his own HVAC business. Walker loved his church and was an active member of Walker Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years.

Walker’s love for his wife and family was second only to hislove of Jesus. He read the Bible daily and prayed with his wife.He believed the Bible, lived the Bible and witnessed to others by his words and deeds.  His greatest desire was for his relatives, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to know Christ, love Him, commit their lives to Him, and live for Him. In hisprayer life, he prayed for his friends and family daily and looked forward to the day that we would all be together in Heaven.

Walker is greatly missed by his family, but there is also an underlying joy in knowing that he is no longer suffering with illness and is in the presence of all those he loved best. The smile on his face and the twinkle in his eyes when he sees hiswife and family members will only be matched by his joy at seeing the face of his Lord. Walker was a wonderful, loving father and a faithful and loving husband to his wife. All will miss his warmth, his wide smile and joyful enjoinder to “put on the coffee”! But most of all we are joyful that he will be hearing those words, “Well done thou good and faithful servant; enter into the joy of your Lord”. (Mt 25:23 KJV).

Arrangements

Visitation will be conducted on Saturday, 3/05/2022 from 10am until noon at Walker Baptist Church, 10696 Florida Blvd, Walker, LA 70785. It will be followed by the Funeral Service at noon with internment in the Minton Cemetery on South Walker Road.
