Obituary for John Patrick Chopin

John, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2019 at the age of 60. John was born in Shreveport, La on January 1, 1959 to Nadine Wilson Chopin and Lamy J. Chopin, Jr. He had a BS in Chemistry from Excelsior University. He had over 25 years combined Production and Laboratory experience including Environmental chemist for LA DEQ and Chemist for Badley Chemicals and Albemarle Corporation.
Visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, on Saturday, September 14, 2019 from 12:00-2:00 pm with service at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. He is survived by his children Allison and Amber Chopin and their mother Mary T. Chopin , Step mother Janis S. Chopin, Siblings and spouses Kelley M. Chopin, Kathy C. and Ken Guidry, Paul E. and Martha Chopin, Laura C. and Craig Ross, Mary C. and Doug Poole, Robert N. and Rhea Mae Chopin, Malies C. and Webb Warren, Sean Matthew Chopin, family friend Tammy Gascon, Nieces & nephews Clarissa, Hannah, and Lamy Guidry, Joshua, Kacey, and Mattie Chopin, Hailey, Dain, and Kiersten Ross, Amanda, Emily, and Dougie Poole, and Gabriel and Eloise Chopin. He was preceded in death by his parents.
John loved sharing his passion for music, cooking, and books. He was a drummer with an appreciation for all musical genres, and a fan of the mystery novels of James Lee Burke.
He enjoyed substitute teaching and tutoring students. As a lifelong reader, John found joy and community at the library. I was sorry to read John's obituary in the paper. I had lost contact with him since he worked at LA DEQ. I remember him as a very thoughtful person. One year he gave each one of us a hand made Christmas gifts.
