07/01/1952 - 10/05/2018

Obituary for Juliette Harrison

Juliet Harrison, a lifelong resident of Denham Springs, went home to our Lord on Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, at the age of 66. Born July 1, 1952, Juliet was a humanitarian, draftsman, potter, artist, musician, and a teacher. She was a passionate teacher, having taught Art, Art History, and Drafting at Catholic High School, Louisiana School for the Deaf, and most recently, Live Oak High School, until her retirement in 2016. She loved all things in nature and had a ferocious curiosity to learn and then to teach. She liked to travel, garden, play music, read, and fish. She spearheaded the Empty Bowls project in Baton Rouge for five years, with proceeds going to the Baton Rouge Food Bank and St. Vincent de Paul. She was a talented artist, with painting and pottery being her favorite mediums. She is survived by Juanetta Hebert; two sisters, Janet Harrison Spillman and Wanda Harrison Shepherd (Gordon Shepherd); two nephews, Joshua Johnson, and Andy Shepherd; a niece, Penny Spillman Boudreaux; great-nephew, Chris Johnson; great-niece, Haylee Shepherd; great-nephew, Zachary Boudreaux; and numerous cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, J.B. Harrison and (Alice) Joyce Harrison; and brother-in-law, Gregory Spillman. The family would like to thank Dr. Reine, Dr. Aberthany and Dr. Zatarain for treating and guiding Juliet through this journey, as well as the staff at Clarity Hospice. Visitation will be at Seale Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Baton Rouge Food Bank in memory of Juliet Harrison, or the Live Oak Art Department.

Condolences

I remember riding the bus with Julie and laughing with her. To say that she was kind is an understatement as she truly had a heart of gold and a love in her heart to help others. I haven't been able to see her in a very long time but I do and will always love and cherish Julie. My heart is with you all and I am praying that God wraps you in his loving arms and gives comfort as only her can give. I love all of you girls.

Our hearts are broken. Julie leaves a void for so many of her friends and family that will only be healed with the many many memories she gave us. As a teacher, Julie touched so many lives and leaves so many people blessed for having shared a part of life's journey with her. I am especially touched by the memories of her impact at the Louisiana School for the Deaf and her establishing Empty Bowls events there for several years. This was a great community service and represented the passion that Julie had for her community. She will be missed. Much love to all her friends and family. Mel and Paula
