Martha Stewart Epperson Miller
10/18/1938 - 01/26/2019
Obituary for Martha Stewart Epperson Miller
Martha Stewart Epperson Miller passed away peacefully Saturday evening at The Butterfly Wing – Hospice in Baton Rouge, LA following a brief illness. She was the best Mom to Laura E. Miller and Paul D. Miller, Jr. and Nana to Clayton R. Cain, Haley H. Miller and Cooper W. Miller. Martha was born in Kingsville, Texas to Louis James Epperson and Ivy Thornton Armstrong Epperson followed by her Brother Louis Jr. 13 months later. The family moved about the South often with L.J.’s job as geophysicist on the seismic crew for Humble Oil / Exxon; Ivy could teach Art& History anywhere. They stayed in Midland, Texas awhile where Martha graduated from High School. She then went off to Dallas with her best friend Mimi Powel to attend Southern Methodist University as a talented Art major. There she met the love of her life Paul D. Miller, Sr. She always said he made her laugh! He always said she was quite a catch and that he “married-up”! In the Miss Dallas Pageant for her sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma she made it to the final round before they “found out she had no talent”. Drawing anything you see is not a talent for the stage! Martha and Paul had fun in college Greek life and had many friends from Texas to Louisiana. They settled in Baton Rouge in 1969. Then every Saturday night dancing became crawfish boils and LSU Home games. Martha went to all of her children’s sporting and performance events, though she couldn’t watch if she thought someone might be injured. She and Paul loved to go to baseball games – she even made Paul a sort-of Cubs fan! Although her middle name is Stewart, no cooking talents here! She made up for it by keeping a spotless house: “A place for everything and everything in its place”. She lit up the room with her sweet smile – perfect teeth – she was as beautiful inside as out. Always a good listener and friend. We will miss her so much, but know she is dancing and laughing in Heaven with Paul. She appreciated the great care from the nurses and CNA’s at Baton Rouge General Bluebonnet and Butterfly Wing during her brief stay there. A memorial visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs, LA on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. Please make a donation to the charity of your choice in her name.
