Cheryl “Sherry” Maxine Wascom Lashua, resident of Walker, Louisiana passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 66 at 2:18 AM on Monday, April 12, 2021 at Woodleigh Senior Living in Baton Rouge. Cheryl was born December 1, 1954 in Freeport, Texas.

Cheryl is survived by her sons, Michael Todd Lashua and Brian Wayne Lashua and daughters-In-law, Amanda Lee Lashua and Whitney Perez Lashua. She is also survived by her grandsons Peyton Lashua, Sawyer Lashua, Alexander Lashua and granddaughter Charlotte Lashua, sister Susan W. Wassan and brother Darrell P. Wascom, nieces Kini W. Schollian, Tenika Wascom and Erica Wascom, nephew  Lucas Wassan and several great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Eric Maxwell Wascom and Daisy Lea May Wascom, infant sister, Marjorie Lynn Wascom, and her grandparents, O’Neal E. Wascom, Lois Mack Wascom, John Evan May and Lillie Mae Muse May.

Cheryl grew up in Clute, Texas and graduated from Brazoswood High School in 1973. She moved to Louisiana soon after, where she attended LSU and became a dedicated employee of AT&T for many years. Cheryl was always the smartest person in the room. She devoted much of her life to child care, her natural calling. She was a loving grandmother, avid reader, exceptional cook and dear friend to many. She loved singing the old hymns at church and when memories were fading, she could still recall them.

Visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, Saturday April 17, 2021 from 8:00 AM until religious services at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Salem Cemetery in Walker.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Woodleigh and Hospice of Baton Rouge for their tender care as well as their attention to the family. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimers Association at alz.org.

    My sincere condolences. Cheryl shared Jesus’ light and her smile. I love that she continued to praise our Lord in hymns.
