July 2, 1971 ~ August 10, 2021

Arthur Couto DeOliveira passed away at 2:39 PM Tuesday, August 10, 2021. He was 50 years old, a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, an Eagle Scout, and a proud graduate of Catholic High School (BR). He was a senior civil/structural designer for several engineering firms in Baton Rouge and Texas. Arthur was a kind, gentle soul with a mischievous sense of humor. He loved spending time with his beloved family and their dog Malcolm. He enjoyed good food, gaming, travel, watching hockey, making popcorn, reading and listening to audio books. He was a highly intelligent man who spoke several languages and was especially fluent in Portuguese.

Arthur is survived by his loving wife of nearly 24 years, Amy Langlois DeOliveira; two sons, James, 20 and David, 14; a brother, Mario DeOliveira, his wife Tracy and their 4 children; his in-laws, Gerard and Marion Langlois; a brother-in-law, Gerard Langlois, Jr; and numerous dear friends and co-workers who loved him and will miss him. Arthur also had an extensive family in Brazil with whom he was very close, paricularly his cousins Jane’ Goncalves Torgano and Tatiane Pimentel Torgano. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Aramis DeOliveira and Vilma DeOliveira Rager; and a stepfather, Ed Rager.

Visitation will be held at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Baton Rouge, Saturday, August 14, beginning at 12:00 p.m. in the St. Aloysius Parish Hall. The visitation will then move into the St. Aloysius Church at 1:00 p.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Entombment will follow at Resthaven Garden of Memory, Baton Rouge.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations in Arthur’s name be made to local blood banks and/or Catholic High School by sending a check in honor of Arthur to: Catholic High School, P.O. Box 65004, Baton Rouge, LA 70896. Or by accessing the website and selecting Tribute Gift: https://catholichigh.org/giving/.

Arthur, my loved cousin ❤️ You were the best person I’ve know, always there to help with whatever we needed. You were so kind and generous. I still can’t believe you passed away. I don’t know how it will be when I go to Louisiana and don’t see you in the airport waiting for us😞 I am glad that you and Amy gave me the honor to be James’ godmother. We will be always together and I’ll love you forever.
    Rest In Peace 🙏🏻

Arthur was one of my oldest and dearest friends. He was always lending a hand, giving without expecting anything in return. Arthur also understood the importance of “being there,” especially for the people who mattered most. When he was around, you just knew that everything was going to be ok. Everyone should have a friend, brother, co-worker, and neighbor like him. Though we are hurting, I think that we take comfort in knowing that he’s watching over us and waiting to see us again one day.

Not only was Arthur one of the kindest people I knew, he was also one of a kind. I’ll miss him more than I think I’ll know. I’m proud to say he was my Godfather and such a dear friend. He had a logical answer for everything and always knew the best way/shortcut to do something. I learned something every time I was around him. He’s now gone too soon from us. God rest his soul!

I remember Arthur… we went to school together both at St Aloyisious and Catholic High.
He was always a kind soul and friend. Never would have thought he would be taken so soon. Many prayers for his family and close friends. I haven’t spoken to him in, it has to be 30 years and still remember his smile and enthusiasm.
I can’t imagine the lives you impressed upon. GOD speed, and may you rest.

What can I say about Arthur? Certainly the most generous person I’ve ever met, a kind soul and always with a smile on his face. Every time we had together as a family was wonderful. I will miss you so much. I pray to God to comfort the hearts of Amy, James, David and the whole family. Your Brazilian family loves you very much. Rest in peace ❤️
