Jessie Lawson Covington “Cub’ Covington, 83 went to be with his Heavenly Father on August 27, 2021. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be missed dearly. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Denham Springs on Saturday, September 11, from 9 a.m. until the service at 12: p.m. Cub was instrumental in Live Oak High School’s basketball teams 99-21 win-loss record in his final three years, including Live Oak’s 1955-56 Class B state championship. He was one of the leading scorers and top rebounders to every play in Livingston Parish and claimed many individual honors including all-district, all tournament and MVP honors in various tournaments. He was also a standout first baseman and pitcher for Live Oak’s baseball team. He received an additional basketball scholarship to William Carey College in Hattiesburg where he played basketball and baseball. He graduated in 1960 with a Bachelors of Science degree and was voted most handsome and Best Sportsman for his graduating class. He then began his career as a teacher and basketball coach. He attended Southeastern University, and obtained his Masters degree plus 30 and then served as Principal of Live Oak High School. He opened “Cub” Covington and Associates Real Estate Company in Denham Springs in 1980. He served on the Livingston Parish School Board, Kiwanis Club and LEDC Board. He served his Lord as a member of First Baptist Church of Denham Springs. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed deer and turkey hunting. He was known as one of the best turkey hunters in the area. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Carol Ann Covington; son, Jesse Lawson Covington, Jr. and wife Kaye; brother, Gene Covington and nieces, Kim Covington Kinchen and Kelli Covington Varnado; step-daughters, Debbie German, Lindsay Scott and husband Danny; grandchildren, Caroline Kaye Covington, Mary Katherine Covington, Megan Hanks, Kathleen German and Anna German; great grandchildren, Koen, Kenzie and Kylee Hanks. At a later date, burial will be at Evergreen Mausoleum, Denham Springs. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital. Please sign the online guestbook at www.sealefuneral.com

Lawson and family sorry for your loss. Mr. Cub was a really good friend of my family. Him and my dad Sidney May. Were really close. That was the days when everyone in Denham knew each other. He will be missed. Love y’all.

Cub was the kindest , most sincere man ever. Always listening , always made you feel safe and special. We were honored to know this sweet Angel. I will sure miss that big Cub hug.

Cub was a strong supporter and advocate for the Livingston Economic Development Council (LEDC) for many years. I am grateful for this and his friendship. He was one of the best.

Cub Covington was one of the kindest and most caring gentleman I have ever known. He was always positive and upbeat, smiling his way through life’s challenges and good times. His bear hugs and gentle encouragement were classic Cub; he was all about bringing joy to all he encountered. Blessings on his beloved family.
