August 14, 1971 ~ November 16, 2021

April Rene’ Welsh Aucoin, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2021, surrounded by friends and family.  April was a caring wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to so many in her life. She was born August 14, 1971, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Charles and Corney Welsh.  She married her best friend and soulmate, Rodger Neil Aucoin Jr., on January 17, 2004.

April’s hands were always busy, but her two greatest priorities and accomplishments are her daughters, Hope Rene’ Aucoin and Anna Grace Aucoin.  She taught them to be like her, strong, independent, caring, and a leader.  She loved her girls deeply and was so proud and supportive of them by attending their weekly bowling games, swim meets, acrobatics competitions, school events, and anything she could be involved to show her love and support for them both.

Her life was a living example of the Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

An amazing spirit and caregiver, April showed love for everyone, even those she has never met.  She began “Abby’s Angel Closet” in memory of her daughter, Abby Lee Aucoin, who passed away on February 28, 2007.   Her organization was created to bless other families with gowns for their Angels, as well as gift cancer patients with things they may need during treatments. During covid, her organization made and donated over 20,000 mask to hospitals, nursing homes, police, firemen, and so many other groups and whoever needed a mask from all around the state.

Her kind soul showed through the smile she had and a laugh that would hit you in the soul.  Along with her organization, April was an active member of Blackwater Methodist Church’s Impact Team and leader of the missions committee for her church.  She would welcome guest with her cousin, Donna Lee, at church weekly with a smile and her favorite quick breakfast, donuts. She was equally passionate about her missions at church as she was about Abby’s Angel Closet. Her heart was so full of love for everyone and was such a great support for anyone that she met.

April loved having guest over for pool parties, BBQ’s, LSU games, and crawfish boils. She loved to entertain and had an incredible gift of making sure people feel welcome at their home.

Visitation will be held at Blackwater United Methodist Church on Sunday, November 21, 2021 from 5pm until 8:00pm. Visitation will resume on Monday at 10:00am. Memorial services will be held at 12:00pm. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.

April is survived by her husband, Rodger Aucoin Jr.; her children, Hope and Anna Grace Aucoin; and stepson Cody Aucoin; parents, Charles and Corney Welsh; sister, Tiffany Welsh and her children Beau Villarreal and Lacy Welsh; father-in-law Rodger Aucoin Sr. & Mother-in-law, Joann Aucoin; sister-in-law, Amy Aucoin Smith and her daughter, Kaleigh Jo Smith; brother-in-law, Wesley Aucoin, his wife Marleen Aucoin and their children, Tanner Aucoin, Jace Aucoin, and Alec Aucoin.

She is proceeded in death by her daughter, Abby Lee Aucoin, grandparents Edward Joseph Welsh and Margie Keller Welsh; Mary Jesse Ortis and Larry Ortis, and her uncle, Richard Arlan Welsh.

Honorary pallbearers are Anthony Lee of Central, Beau Villarreal of Central, Jeff Welsh of Palm Springs, California, Jesse Lee of Central, Kelly Welsh of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, and Tanner Aucoin of Central.

We want to thank the nurses, staff, and her whole team of doctors at the Baton Rouge General Hospital Bluebonnet for the months of amazing care they provided to April, especially nurse Tracy who she adored.

In lieu of flowers, we ask you please consider donating to the family in support her two daughters, Abby’s Angel Closet, and the missions projects at Blackwater Methodist Church in Central (Checks can be made out to either cash for her daughters and Abby’s Angel Closet or made out to Blackwater Methodist for their missions) to 13904 Tech Avenue, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70818.

I never personally met April …but I am good friends with Gina Minor April’s friend…Gina sent me a prayer request for April shortly after she was hospitalized in. May i think…I forwarded the request to my friends and from there the outpouring of love , concern and prayes for April just snowballed…other people like me who didnt personally know her became so involved in her journey , they would ask me for an update on April…she had a tremendous following and prayer chain….when she fought the good fight and it looked like she had won, we were thrilled, but it wasn’t meant to be …..we mourn her passing and know she is now watching over her husband Roger and her 2 girls…its going to be a rough holiday season , I pray that God will get them through….You can rest now lovely lady..

If you think one person can’t change the world, you a) never tried and b) never met April. I am forever comforted by her compassion and grace. I pray our Lord’s comfort to her family and all who labored with her.
