Tommy Felder Powell

November 9, 1943 – January 4, 2022

Tommy   Felder   Powell   went   to   his   eternal   home on January  4, 2022. He was surrounded by, cared for  and loved by his family in his last months at home where he passed. Tommy   was   born   to   loving   Christian parents,

H.W. and Frances Powell, who predeceased him. He was a beloved son and older   brother to Elizabeth Powell Miley(Phil) who passed and Henry “Tank” Powell (Kathy).

He spent his childhood in Bogalusa, LA.      Tommy graduated from Bogalusa High School where he excelled at football and garnered   many accolades. He was recruited by and played for LSU from 1961–1965. His experiences at LSU left him with a lifetime of memories.

He matriculated from LSU in May of 1966, and later obtained his Master’s Degree and + 30 at Southeastern Louisiana University. Tommy was a Licensed Professional Counselor.  His career took him from Head Football Coach of Slidell   High School to the Department of Education,Tau Center, Our Lady of the Lake Rehabilitation Hospital and retired from  the Department of Social Services. In each role he helped others and touched many lives through his career.

Tommy was married to Barbara George for 42   years. Tommy and Barbara shared a love of church, family, sports and travel. Tommy leaves four daughters, Tammy Powell Earles (Greg), Sherry Powell (Karl Gottfried, III), Stacey Powell Cambre (Shane) and Christi Courtney (Rod). He adored his daughters but his nine granddaughters were the light of his   world, Christina Glass (Zach), Ann’Lee Inman(Graham), Dr. Abby Rousseau(Joe), Amanda Patt (John), Allie & Carley Crain and Camille, Olivia and Claire Cambre. Tommy had four great grandsons who brought him such joy, Carter, Camden, Landry and Lincoln. Family was so important and he loved his nieces and nephews dearly, Henry Powell, Jr. (Wende), Angel Powell Huszar (Joe), Mark Miley, Melissa Miley and special aunt, Sue Powell and cousins, Becky Ferrara (Daryl) and Susanne Powell.

The family would like to acknowledge his wonderful neighbors in Pecan Grove who he counted all as friends.

Neighbors, Mark Watts and Gene Carpenter,   were invaluable to Tommy and he considered them family. We wish to thank the many doctors and nurses who saw him through the years  with  his  complex   medical  conditions.

At the end, it was his wife and in-home caretakers who made it possible for him to remain at home and we are grateful to all, especially Ciera Angel, Deirdre   Angel, Gwen Sanders, CNA and Casandra   Williams, RN, and special friend, Ellen Butler.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Funeral Service on Friday, January 7, 2022, at Amite   Baptist Church, 7100 Amite Church Road,   Denham Springs, LA 70726, with visitation at 10:00 a.m. until service at 12:00   p.m. Interment will be at Denham Springs Cemetery. Barbara, I have fond memories of Tommy and you at Amite Church. I hate to hear that he has passed but, I have no doubt that he is with the Lord. I have missed greatly our ability to visit after I moved to Amite. May the Lord keep you and your family in His watch care.

Dear aunt Barbara, and all the girls, your husband and daddy were a big influential part of my life. My daddy named Tommy Powell and my mother Barbara Powell loved him tremendously. As my dad was going through the process of getting a transplant they came every Sunday to my home when we lived in GonzAles. My daddy always loved your father. I am so happy that my daddy was up there to greet him with open arms when he entered the gracious gates of heaven. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you but please know your father is it now in an awesome place with no pain, I know it is hard for all of you, but give it to our Lord Jesus Christ and you will be good. Love all of you and hugs and prayers for all of you
