2023ObituariesDerryl Layne Severio

February 9, 2023by SealeUser4

In the words of the late great Richard Pryor, “He Was Dearly, and He Hath Departed.”
Derryl Layne Severio, the most interesting man in the world, was born on January 16th, 1962, and passed away peacefully at his residence in Denham Springs, Louisiana at the age of 61.
Born in Simmesport, Louisiana, Derryl called Denham Springs for most of his life, often traveling across the country and abroad for work.  Even those closest to him always believed that his frequent travel was in the line of his work as a welder and welding inspector, but no one has ever been able to disprove the rumors that he was really an international spy.
Widely renowned and internationally revered as the Greatest Welder of All Time, Derryl achieved greatness in various hobbies; these included fishing, boating, and the culinary arts.  His cooking was, in a word, legendary.
Derryl was also deeply passionate about his work as a lay physicist.  It is believed that sometime during the early morning hours of February 9, Derryl had finally discovered the Theory of Everything – an answer to all of the questions everyone has had about the universe, since the beginning of time.  Unfortunately, his heart failed him almost immediately afterward, and we will never know for sure.
Derryl is survived by: his best friend and constant companion, Elvis the long-haired chihuahua; his daughter Chelsea Severio; grandson Parker Grey Freeman; brothers Paul Severio and Brent Severio; sister Terri Severio; sister-in-law Nancy Severio; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends all over the world, including politician, statesmen, dignitaries, and so on.   He was preceded in death by his parents, parents Louis and Lolita Severio; and his nephew, Devin Causey.

We invite you to join us for visitation, which will be held on February 12th, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs.

He was a wonderful friend and an equally amazing grandfather to our joint
grandson. I will miss his smile and the light he brought into our world. I feel blessed to have known him. His legacy will continue…

What can I say about Darryl . He was my best friend and every day for about a year I would go sit with Darryl in the after noon and he would fix me a cup of coffee and he would tell me the stories of his life. I really love to listen to the stories of his life and now I am vey sad and miss him very much now that he has passed away. I recall one of the best stories was about Elvis and his pet dog and the Alligator. Darryl went fishing and he brought Elvis of course and an 8 foot Alligator was coming toward their boat. Elvis loved Darryl like his father and was very protective and I guess he thought the Alligator was going to get Darryl so he jumped into the water to attack the Alligator. They had to take a net to retrieve Elvis and restrain him in the boat, I know Elvis is very sad too that his master is gone. Good bye to a great story teller and friends to many.

Saying my goodbyes to Derryl will most likely be a long endeavor. He has been my friend and that in itself is tremendous. We come across many people in our lives. However we only hold on to a few that truly can be defined as a genuine friend. He was the type of person who lived his life unapologetically and had strong opinions. At the same time he was caring and created a space where you could be your most authentic self. He unequivocally was one of the most unique people I have ever encountered. Reflecting on the great loss he was to me and so many others I am reminded of a truth. Each person is unique and if each person is unique to a great degree then everyone has something to bring into the world which only they can bring. This is a heavy load to bear. It is incorrect that nothing you do matters rather that everything you do matters. You did matter to all of us and played an important part in our lives. You will be missed Derryl.
