September 24, 1958 ~ March 9, 2023

Benjamin D Alsip of Greenwell Springs, LA passed away peacefully on March 9, 2023, at the young age of 64 while in care at Oschner Medical Center.  Benjamin was born on September 24, 1958, in Baton Rouge, LA.  He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jo Lambert of Chester, AR, and father, Benjamin H. Alsip of Mountainburg, AR.  He was raised to the age of 10 in Baton Rouge and then moved to Hammond Louisiana where he graduated from Hammond High School in 1977.

Benjamins surviving family includes his wife, Jane Rice Alsip and four children Benjamin D. Latil, Kathryn A. Fleury and husband Torrey Fleury, Layne L. Alsip and husband Casey W. Devall, and Wilkes L. Alsip. He has 13 wonderful grandchildren Shane Davis, Reigan and Brodie Jacobs, Phillip Devall, Porter Davis, Akira Fleury, Melody Crane, Takara Fleury, Ben “Junior” White, Anya Devall, Julian Alsip, Ava Simpson, Link Fleury, and Violet Fleury. Benjamin has two sisters, Julie Hudson and husband Randy Hudson, Alice “Diane” Butler, and Sammie Butler. He has 2 nephews and one niece, Scott Hudson and daughter Ruby Hudson, Jeffrey Hudson and wife Jenna Hudson and their two daughters Julianna Hudson and Jenlyn Hudson, Lindsey Jones and husband Brian Jones and their son Ben Jones.

He ran his own appliance repair business and aspired to be a great musician, and to most of us he was. He was brilliant when it came to saying the right things at the right time, and always had a way of making you see a better way.  He was kind, caring, sensitive to others, wise, thoughtful, a teacher, a mentor, our family’s biggest supporter, a comedian most days, and never failed to let us know how much he loved us. He created a hard act to follow with all of his wonderful traits and wisdom. He may not have been perfect, but he was perfect for our “Alsip Clan.” He was a one-of-a-kind, unique soul that could never be replaced. He was the best husband, father, friend and Papi. All who knew him were blessed.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

I reconnect with Ben last year on fb. I was scheduling back surgery and Ben was having some complications, never got to see him. He invited me over for some catfish but it just didn’t consummate much to my regret. Rest In Peace my friend. My condolences to the family….

I am deeply saddened by Ben’s passing,,, never forget my cousin Joey Drago telling me when I first got to Hammond High that he had someone he wanted me to meet,,, I was immediately floored when we met,,, you cood feel the kindness of his heart,,, rite out of the gate,,, well,,, I know as well as most of yall do,,, that Ben has walked thru the pearly gates in heaven,,, cause there are no kinder souls walking this earth today,,, there are no words to describe my greif,,, and then,,, I figure he’s got his wings,,, his health,,,and his knowledge that he was one of a kind,,, a truly caring person,,, far too short of stock down here presently,,, I’m sure those denizens are feeling the same way I did,,, at first glance,,, love you Ben Alsip,,, and now there’s another hole in my heart,,, that will be impossible to fill,,, God bless all of Ben’s family and friends,,, since their holes will be harder to fill,,, RIP Ben,,,you’ll always have a place in my Heart,,,❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
