October 14, 1949 – April 4, 2023

William “Sonny” Perry Blakey, born on October 14, 1949, in Albany, GA and residing in Denham Springs, LA peacefully passed away on April 4, 2023 due to squamous cell carcinoma. He had a deep love for his children, an amazing connection to animals, loved fishing, was an avid reader and watcher of old westerns. He was the best story-teller you could ever meet, making even the simplest story dramatic, and sometimes unbelievable. Sonny found his passion for motorcycles at the young age of 14 which led to his career as a motorcycle mechanic. His need for speed did not end there, he went on to dominate in track racing throughout the South, mostly on bikes he built himself. Sonny is survived by his children; Laurie Martin, Amie Stanberry (Danny), Jessica Burns, Jennifer Pineirovigo (Angel), Sarah Stevens (Benjamin), Ivie Gremillion (Kevin), and Jacob Blakey (Shannon). 17 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. Brothers; David Blakey and Darrell Blakey. Sister; Catherine Blakey Odom-Weeks and many nieces and nephews. Sonny is preceded in death by his parents,  Maudelle (McDaniel) Blakey and Clyde Blakey. Brother; Glenn Blakey. Sister; Debra Hutto. Son-in-law; John Martin. Great Aunt; Kuttie McDaniel. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service, which will be held at Albany Baptist Church, In Albany, GA on May 6, 2023 at 11:00 AM with a lunch to follow. On behalf of  Sonny, the family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the following for the compassion, comfort, and joy they shared in his hardest times; Nita Blackwell, Crystal with Gentiva Hospice, the staff of The Crossing at Clarity Hospice, and the staff and residents of both Harvest Manor and The Guest House.     I’m so sorry for y’all’s lost and I hope that y’all just find comfort right now with family and sorry I won’t be able to make it to the services but y’all are in my prayers.

    I will always miss Sonny. He ended up being a good friend and enjoyed our conversations and watching birds together. He was a light in my life and will be greatly missed.
