Michael Wayne Martello, Sr. “It is foolish and wrong to mourn the man who died; rather we should thank God that such a man lived.” “Big Mike” passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023 at his home in Denham Springs, LA. He was born to Carlo, Sr. and Ida Mae Swanson Martello on January 31, 1950 in Baton Rouge. He attended Glen Oaks High School, married and became the proud father of two sons. Michael Wayne was a master craftsman and then business owner of Mike’s Counter Tops, becoming widely known and well respected as ‘the best’ in the area. During his 50 years in the field, he trained many apprentices, always willing to give someone a chance to work and learn the craft he loved. Along the way he made many friends who became a part of his life away from work and once he retired, they all learned how much he loved a phone. He loved a good joke and was quite a prankster. He is survived by a son, Michael, Jr. and wife Laurie Hyde Martello, two grandchildren, Caden and Callie Martello, his loving companion of 30 years Iris Cutrer, and daughter of his heart, Christina Erwin and husband Chad, and daughter Myiah, and devoted friend Mike Archer. Also survived by a sister-in-law, Yvonne Martello, many loving nieces ,nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by a son, Shaun David Martello, his parents, a sister, Leona, and two brothers, C.E. and Carlo Jr. There will be no formal services held as he requested. He will be cremated as he wished, handled by Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs.
