August 8, 1949 ~ October 2, 2023

Margaret Oliphant Dunlap, 74, of Denham Springs, died peacefully Monday, October 2, 2023 at Clarity Hospice of Baton Rouge.

Margaret was born on August 8, 1949 in Independence, Louisiana. She graduated from Baker High School and became a homemaker. Later in life Margaret enjoyed her work at the Beau Rivage Casino. She loved to cook, can vegetables, find good shopping deals, and most of all making weekly phone calls to family and friends to catch up on their news. Margaret loved children and became “Maw-Maw” to countless children who lived near her. They knew they could depend on Maw-Maw for a treat or meal. She was very kind and generous. She would never allow anyone to walk away hungry, even if it meant going through her freezer, refrigerator and pantry to make sure they had something to eat.

She is preceded in death by her son Danny Wade Melton, parents Valmon Joseph Oliphant and Agnes Nettles Oliphant Townsend, a sister Judy Ezell, and a granddaughter BreAnn Nolan. Survivors include her husband of 45 years Daniel “Crickett” Dunlap, Jr., her daughter Debbie Melton Nolan, grandchildren Wade Musso and KateLynn Nolan (John Chavers), great granddaughters Addison Granger and Oakleigh Chavers, brother Joseph Oliphant (Monice) and sister Zelda Courtney. Her nine nieces and nephews loved and adored her.

Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery, Crosby, Mississippi.

A special thanks to the professional and compassionate staff of Bridgeway Hospice, especially Nurse Shana Hamilton and CNA Nikki, also thank you to the staff at Ochsner Hospital for the great care.
