William Lee (Dooky) Kirby, Sr. went to be with his Savior on Monday, January 22, 2024.  He was born November 19, 1940, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Clarence and Ivy Kirby.  He attended Baton Rouge High School and enlisted in the United States Army in 1959.  Bill (Dooky) married his loving wife Carolyn Hyde Kirby on December 30, 1961.

Bill retired from Chevron after 27 years of service and Weber Grills after 20 years.  He was a member of First Baptist Church in Clinton, Louisiana and loved his church family.  He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.

Bill (Dooky) is survived by his loving wife Carolyn Kirby, sons and daughter-in-laws William Lee Kirby, Jr. and Shannon Brian Kirby; Michael Eugene Kirby and Shellie Graham Kirby; grandchildren Heather Capello Smith and Gregory Cole Smith; Donnie Charles Capello, Jr.; William Lee Kirby, III “Trey” and Kaci Maggio Kirby; Michael Hagen Kirby; Brian Kyle Kirby; Caroline Elaine Capello;  Peyton McKenzie Kirby and fiancé Lochlan Dale Axsom; Reagan LeeAnn Kirby, Michael Wade Kirby; Camille Ann Kirby; and seven great grandchildren, extended family and friends that he loved and adored.

Mr. Kirby is preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law Karen Kim Capello and Donnie Charles Capello, Sr.; granddaughter Lindsey Ann Capello; parents Clarence and Ivy Kirby; brother “Bubba” Kirby; father-in-law and mother-in-law O. Eugene and Ethel Hyde, Sr.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law O. Eugene and Helen Hyde, Jr.

A memorial service honoring William Lee (Dooky) Kirby, Sr.  will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at First Baptist Church, 12329 Jackson Street, Clinton, Louisiana.  Visitation will begin at 2:30 PM, service at 4:00 PM, and a meal immediately following at the church.  Officiated by Dr. Tom Hicks, Pastor Mitch Axsom, and Andrew Graham.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of Audubon Hospice for their loving care and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home in Monroe, Louisiana.

    To Carolyn and the Kirby family,
    We are saddened to hear about Dooky. He was always an enjoyment to be around for many years. A true gentleman and patriarch of a great family. He will be truly missed and fondly remembered.
