Thomas Augustine Corona (Paw Paw Tommy)

Thomas Augustine Corona went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 with his family by his side. He was 87 years old. He was born July 19, 1936 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Tom was a 1954 graduate of Catholic High School. He had a 27-year career in state government where he held various high-level positions at Earl K. Long Hospital, Greenwell Springs Hospital, and DOTD. He retired from DOTD as Business Manager in January 1987. Prior to his state service, he worked with his father at Baton Rouge Poultry Company and Food Town Grocery.

He enjoyed traveling in his motorhome with his wife of almost 39 years, Carroll, and toured all 48 contiguous states and Alaska over 15 years. He also enjoyed playing golf, going to casinos, gardening, going to the movies, cooking, and visiting with family.

Tom is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Carroll Ricks Corona; daughter, “Tish” Landry (Ronnie); son, Albert D. Corona (Carrie); stepdaughters, Sarah Fugler Rhody and Lee Ann Fugler; daughter-in-law, Sylvia Corona; seven grandchildren, David “Tiger” Bell (Leah), Phillip Corona (Rachael), Brittney Scavona (David), Brandy Lasyone (Ronnie), Thomas Corona II, Lisa Corona, and Aramis Corona; two step-grandchildren, Kristen Nettles (Chris) and Ethan Lyon; eleven great-grandchildren and one expected in July 2024; and his two fur babies.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Izetta Broussard Corona (Grandpaw Pete and Nanny); son, Mark R. Corona; and his first wife and mother of his children, Minnie Louise Corona.

He is also survived by his extended family, Louise Russell, Mathilda Mize, Robert Ricks (Pat), Thelma Ricks Simmons (Hillary), and Jewel Hudspeth-Harrell (Danny). He was preceded in death by Carroll’s parents, Bennie and Pearl Ricks; brothers-in-law, Maurice Ricks, Alfred Ricks, L. C. Mize, Charlie Hudspeth and Kirk Russell; and sisters-in-law, Sharon Ricks, Nancy Ricks, and Ruby Ricks.

Visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 from 11:00am until 1:00pm. Funeral services will be conducted by Todd Vickery at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Tiger Bell, Phillip Corona, Ronnie Landry, David Scavona, John Achord, Robert Ricks, and Hillary Simmons. Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Corona, Chris Nettles, Louis Broussard, Donald Burgess, and two great friends, Darrell Williams and Willie Walker.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Baton Rouge nurses Tiffany, Chrissy, Lisa and Julie, Todd Vickery, and Merideth.

    Carroll we are so sorry for your loss. Tom was such a wonderful man and we enjoyed visiting with him On many occasions. We will be unable to attend the services tomorrow because we are both involved in medical appointments. We will be praying for you and your wonderful family.
