September 12, 1936 ~ March 21, 2024

Willie “Billy” M. Chavers was a beloved great-grandfather, grandfather, father, and husband during his 87 years of life.  We lost him on the evening of Thursday, March 21, 2024.

We will remember him for his loving nature, easy-going attitude, wisdom, and calming presence.  He was undoubtedly the most self-less person, which is the ultimate expression of love and compassion.  We are forever grateful for the sacrifices he made for his family.  Billy was blessed with a long and full life.  He was born September 12, 1936, to loving parents and grew up in Watson, Louisiana.  He graduated from Live Oak High School, and worked as a contractor for 50+ years, owning Chavers Brothers Contractors and Chavers Brothers Cabinet Shop.  After retiring, he continued to stay busy by working with his grandson-in-law’s gravel business, which he loved.  He enjoyed staying as active as possible and had a strong work ethic.

Billy loved to fish and hunt throughout his life and had several camps and a motorhome, taking full advantage of the Sportsman’s Paradise Louisiana and Mississippi had to offer.  He also loved sports and attended too many games to count supporting his children and grandchildren throughout the years to cheer on baseball, softball, basketball, and volleyball teams.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years Elizabeth Ott Chavers and his parents: Andrew W. Chavers, Sr. and Minnie Whitehead Chavers, brothers: Leroy, Andrew Jr, and Gary Don “Teddy”, and sister Ernestine Chavers King.  His first wife and mother of his two daughters, Jeffery Jean Cockerham, also precedes him in death.

He is survived by his two daughters: Jean Ann Cooper and husband John, and Dena Stewart; Grandchildren Paige Cooper (fiancé Kade Fouts), Anna Cooper, Haley Stewart, and Alayna Dansby (Denny); and great-grandchildren,  William Cooper Fouts, and Drake and Cohen Dansby.  Step-children Susan Sibley Cryer and husband John, David Sibley and wife Laurie, and Judy Sibley West and husband Lance; his step-grandchildren: John Garrett Cryer, Bryan Cryer and wife Suzanne, Michael Sibley, Mandy Jo Sibley Pickering and husband Mark, Jennifer West and significant other Nik Sharp, and Nichole West and husband Joe Melancon; step grandchildren: Emma Rae Smith, and step great-grandchildren: Grant Sibley, Auren Kai West, Morgan Cryer, Aiden Cryer, Natalee Melancon, Samuel and Cadence Pickering.

Pallbearers are John Cooper, Lance West, Bryan Hastings, Bryan Cryer, Michael Sibley, and Kade Fouts.  Honorary pallbearer is John Garrett Cryer.

Funeral services are Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Seale Funeral Service in Denham Springs, Louisiana.  Visitation from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with services at 1:00 pm.
