I will truly miss Florence. I met her initially through a camellia group on social media and then got to know her more through the American Camellia Society. In January of 2011, I was a novice judge with the American Camellia Society and came down from Oregon on vacation and got to judge at a show in Metairie on her judging team. We exchanged many camellia cuttings over the years. She was definitely among my favorite camellia people and I know her departure for better things leaves a big hole with both the American Camellia Society and the International Camellia Society.

The loss of Florence hits hard every camellia friend she made from around the world. Her joy in our flowers was infectious, and she shared her joy and knowledge freely. We shall miss her.
Our sincere condolences to all her family.
    Sincerely,

Ms. Florence was truly a great lady. My prayers and condolences are with her loved ones. She has been a blessing in so many lives, including mine since I was a child and would visit her as she worked in her garden. She was a wonderful teacher, also. After decades, when I lived out of state, when I moved back and reconnected with her, she was a loyal and stalwart friend and encourager. I am sending sincere prayers to her dear family for comfort as you miss her.

I had the privilege of meeting and getting to know Florence when I began working at Avery Island as a botanist in 2016 and from that point on I relied on her for so much advice. Her visits to the Island were always anxiously awaited. Both she and James Campbell were indispensable in helping me understand and appreciate the Camellias of Jungle Gardens. They devoted so much of their time to deciphering what was in the gardens and ultimately provided me with two LARGE binders filled with information on what they had discovered over their many years of exploring the gardens. She was such a delightful and caring person, I could always call her and be greeted with a wonderful conversation. Loved her so much and will forever miss Florence Crowder.

I first met Florence when my mother taught at Denham Springs High School. They were dear friends and I joined in the group gatherings. My favorite memories are of our trips together to buy antiques in England for our
shops. The stories I could tell! She was loved and admired. My thoughts and prayers to all the family

May Ms. Florence’s family find peace and comfort as they remember her. I often call her Ms. Camellia because of her love for Camellias. She had an equal love for the history of her family and Livingston Parish. She was an officer in the Edward Livingston Historical Association (ELHA) and never tired of her efforts to preserve the history of the parish and its families.

It was so upsetting to get the news that my friend from high school and until now has passed away.
Florence was the member of our class of ’54 that kept us informed of news that applied to our classmates.
It was always so much fun to return to reunions that she and the committee planned for us.
I will miss her and I am remembering her family and friends in prayer. It is comforting to know that she is with Jesus.

I’m a long time friend of Mrs. Florence. She was my former father in law’s campaign manager when he was a state representative in Livingston parish for years. She also made all of my wedding flowers for my wedding 40 years ago. She was a really good person & had a way with people. She will truly be missed.

I was fortunate to see, after corresponding with her for years online, beautiful Florence and her son in September 2023. She worked so hard to find the Alice Allen Camellia, named for my grandmother. I’m grateful for that. She was a beautiful lady. My thoughts and prayers are with Johnny and the rest of her family and friends. May your sadness turn to pleasant memories of wonderful Florence.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Florence’s passing. We had been friends for many years and shared a passion for camellias that brought us together. I’m French and we’d never stopped corresponding. I would like to extend my deepest condolences to all her family, of whom she often spoke to me. Although I will not be able to attend the ceremony, my warmest thoughts are with her family at this difficult time.
    Sincerely,
