Cary Lansing Hoover, Jr., age 68, passed away on April 26, 2025, at his home in Denham Springs, Louisiana. Born on December 20, 1956, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Cary lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and a deep love for the things that brought him joy.

A proud graduate of Baker High School’s Class of 1974 in Baker, Louisiana, Cary remained closely connected to his roots throughout his life. He was a longtime member of First Baptist
Church of Baker, where he found spiritual grounding and community.

Cary shared 34 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Debra Davis Hoover. Their home was a place of warmth and welcome for many over the years. Cary also held a special place in the hearts of numerous nieces and nephews across generations – nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and even great-great-nieces and nephews – who were touched by his easygoing nature and generous spirit.

He was preceded in death by his father Cary L. Hoover, Sr., mother Ethel Bankston Hoover, brother Gary Hoover, and sister-in-law Mickey Hoover.

Cary had a passion for life that was evident in the things he loved most. He found freedom on the open road riding his Honda Goldwing motorcycle and excitement in attending NASCAR races. He loved planning vacations and traveling to the beach, the mountains, and anywhere that sounded interesting. These hobbies brought him joy and camaraderie with others who shared his enthusiasm.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 17, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cary and Debbie’s home located at 34965 Perkins Rd, Denham Springs, Louisiana 70706. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of a man whose presence brought light to those around him.

May Cary’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him and continue to inspire kindness and joy in the lives he touched.

    Cary,
It is a couple of months until it will be 29 years since I came to live with you and Debbie. We bonded quickly and I quickly felt at ease in your house and in your company with your kind and calm nature and your sense of humour – although the first couple of days Debbie had to help me understand what you were saying. You and Debbie made me feel welcome and part of your family from day one and I am grateful for ya’ll’s hospitality. You were a person whom it was easy to be in the company of without having to always talk, something I appreciated. I have fond memories of driving with you in your truck maybe going to your parents or Walmart or to meet Debbie after work, sometimes having good conversations and other times just in easy silence. I also remember sometimes watching TV with you in the afternoons on your days off or after your night shifts, when I got home from school. You resembled some of my father’s qualities of being calm, patient and a great listener and ‘conversationer’. You were very caring. As is Debbie. Ya’ll made it so easy for me to adjust to live with both of you- with Debbies humour, carisma and motherly love and care. Ya’ll were very generous and took me many places, both in Louisiana and travelling to other states either with Julie, or my parents. I have vivid and beautiful memories of many of these trips. My mom talked many times of the trip where we visited 10 states in ten days with you and Debbie. She also recalls how you so kindly joined us on a walk in the smokey mountains when she and I wanted to walk a bit and look around, but then got nervous about hearing it was a bear area and potentially running into a bear! So you came with us.

My dad also shared great moments with ya’ll and reminded me of the time ya’ll came to Denmark and you had a taste of our traditional ryebread thinking it was chocolate cake. You only had that one bite!

Just yesterday, my husband and I had our Copper Wedding Anniversary (12,5 years of marriage which is one of the milestones or official anniversaries in Denmark). Debbie’s and your marriage I believe is an inspiration to many of us. It touched me deeply to hear of the care Debbie and the family had given to you over the last couple of years. Debbie and you were always very caring and respectful to each other and the love and friendship between you was very evident.

Just a year and two days ago I saw you and Debbie again. In London. You wrote to my mom around your birthday that it was one of the highlights of 2024 for you. For me as well.

I am truely lucky to have met you.

Cary was indeed a wonderful friend and detailed person. If he planned a vacation he had it outlined by day and routes picked out and lodging scheduled. He explored the internet and discovered unique places near the destination. My favorite memory was the trip up the west coast on Highway 1. We stopped to watch the ocean and walked on the beach so we could claimed to have put our toes in the water.

He was patient, kind, knowledgeable and a kind and generous friend. He loved his wife, Debbie, and always was ready to sit and talk about anything. He loved to travel and was ready to go anytime.

We will all miss him but rejoice that he is healed and walking “the streets of gold” in Heaven! Love, Pat Truesdale.
