Gordon “Dickie” Bankston, 68, of Laurel Mississippi, was a graduate of Central High and retired Baton Rouge District Chief Firefighter also owned and operated Rescue Carpet Cleaning. He took his last ride out of this life onto the streets of gold on the evening of Thursday, July 27, 2023. Visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, on Tuesday, August 1 from 10 am to 12 pm immediately followed by a memorial service. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchild, and enjoyed many years coaching and supporting them. He was an avid sports fan, but especially loved LSU. He was a Harley man who loved riding his motorcycle cross country and he was a founding member and treasurer of Chapter 76 of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America. He was charismatic, full of life, and always there for a friend in need. He was preceded in death by Tom and Joyce Bankston and is survived by his loving wife Sharon Bankston; children Leah (Darrin) Johnson, Lance (Erin) Bankston, and Kayla (Randall) Bankston; grandchildren Derrick Johnson, Laura (Grant) Ortego, Natalie Johnson, and Theodore Cochran; and great grandchild William Ortego; siblings Timmy (Judy) Bankston and Tommye (Gary) Dauphin, and his nieces and nephews. We want to thank the doctors, nurses, and coordinators of the LVAD Team, Cardiology Team, Heart Transplant Team, and Home Health Team of Ochsner’s Hospital for their guidance through his journey. Cindi and I met Dickie thru the AMCA Chapter 76. We were motorcycle Brothers from the first time we met. He always had a smile on his face (My kind of guy). We couldn’t help but like him. If there are motorcycles in Heaven, I’m sure Dickie will be waiting for us to ride the streets of gold:) We are sad to lose him in this world and will miss him. But look forward to riding eternally with him and those that have gone before him. I pray the Lord our God give peace and love to those he leaves behind.

We rode together, worked together, and laughed together. My thoughts are with Sharon and the family. It was always a fun time when we did shift change at the fire station. Just like his old Captain, he did it all and can one-up you! Going to miss you, my friend.

I had the pleasure to work with and around Dickie at a number of fire stations when we were working for the BRFD. What a character what a storyteller. Entertaining to say the least. Never was dull around Dickie. Was always good to work with. Good firefighter good guy a friend . I haven’t saw Dickie very much since we retired. That is the way life is I suppose. Heart felt condolences to the family. RIP buddy.

We have a lot of great memories of Dickie during the Daytona Bike Weeks and staying at Ocean Crest, that we will cherish the rest of our lives. We will miss his friendship and his stories. We feel blessed that God placed Dickie in our lives. May God grant the family peace during this time of mourning.
