Charles Matthew Minton, 94, passed on from this world on October 21, the year of our Lord 2023, at his daughter’s residence in Hankamer, Texas. Charlie was born in Denham Springs on Eden Church Road. He served in the U.S. Navy and retired from active service in 1963. He then continued a career in retail sales with Kinney Shoes and J.C. Penney, earning his second retirement with the Penney Co. But he continued working in retail sales at convenience stores in Baker, Walker and Denham Springs. He was well known around Walker from his service at the Chevron convenience store south of town. Charlie may have developed his love for serving the public by spending his lunch breaks from Walker High School by working for Mr. Rudolph Peak, who had the only store in Walker. He recalled that the pay was the best, a 5-cent Coke and a 5-cent cake for an hour’s work. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mamie Ellzey Minton; brothers, Joe Ellzey Minton and Marlin Clyde Minton; sister, Bernelle Minton Conerly; niece, Dorothy Minton Haley; nephew, Patrick Conerly; sister-in-law, Gwen Minton; and great-granddaughter, Lorelei Paige Young. He is remembered and celebrated by his wife, Carolyn Oliphant Minton; three daughters, Chrystal Minton Benson, Tracy Minton Maines, and Amy Minton Salvadore; stepchildren, Susan Broussard, Sharon Hughes and Wayne Hughes; grandsons, Michael Gregory, Billy Maines and Austin Salvadore; granddaughters, Chrystal Johnson, Tina Smith and Shelby Maines; and numerous great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs on Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 9am until Celebration of Life Service at 11am followed by interment at Minton Family Cemetery in Walker.
