Michael Angelo Crayton, Sr., a father, devoted friend, proud Marine and entrepreneur, passed away in his home on Friday, October 4, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and determination.  He was born on February 9, 1959, to Elouise Gunter and Louis Crayton in the small town of Sulligent, Alabama. He was raised by his grandmother, Alice Elizabeth Crayton.

Michael attended high school in Wisconsin and graduated with honors. Shortly after graduation, he answered the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving from June 8, 1977, to June 12, 1985. During his military career, he traveled the world, earning numerous accolades, including Rifle Expert and Pistol Expert. Michael took on the role of head weapons repairman and later became a respected Marksmanship Instructor, impressing all with his skills and dedication.

Among his many accomplishments in life, Michael settled in Baton Rouge, where he became a business owner who approached every task with pride and ambition. His sons and friends describe him as a loyal,  trash talking, no-nonsense father, a master craftsman, brutally honest, and known for his ability to teach and give advice, repeatedly. That advice now resonates more than ever. Michael was a straight shooter, never shying away from speaking his mind, and engaging in lively conversations that could last for hours.

Michael found joy in preparing delicious meals for family and friends, often experimenting with new recipes and flavors. His love for fishing and fixing things is where he found solitude. He loved introducing people to new experiences, whether that was through vacations, culinary delights, or simply sharing a well-told story. As much as he kept people at a distance, he cherished having them close.

Although he served as a father figure to many, Michael’s legacy will be carried forward by his sons, Michael Angelo Crayton, Jr., Jamal Marquis Crayton, and Jamel Sanches Buck (Jalisa Buck). He is survived by  sisters, Sheila Crayton (Phillip), Joyce Payne, and Carol Adams; brothers, Louis Crayton III and Eric Pickett (Carol); cherished nieces, Lisa Crayton, Nicole Gaines, Nicki Smith, Tarynn Gipson, nephews, Theodore Bunting, Louis Crayton IV and Michael Hill (Stephanie); and lifelong friend, Donna Lukemann and daughter Danielle Lukemann.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved grandmother, uncle Jimmy Crayton, and nephew, Kyle Crayton.

A celebration of his life will be held at Seale Funeral Home, located at 1720 S. Range Ave., Denham Springs, LA 70726 on Saturday, October 12, 2024.

Pall Bearers: Richard Gould, Donald Ray Brown, Destin Collins, Allen Ray Reed Jr., Horace Celestin, and Justin Sins.

Honorary Paul Bearers: Eric Pickett and Louis Crayton III.

In this time of sorrow, the family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has provided support, love, and prayers along this journey.  Michael’s life will be fondly remembered by everyone whose lives he touched. His impact will endure, leaving a lasting impression on all he encountered.  His legacy will be carried forward by his three sons.

My cousin, Michael, will truly be missed. I’ve known Michael my whole life. He spent time in WI with his Aunt Olean, my mother, who was his grandmother (my Aunt Alice’s) sister. Words cannot express how this loss has hurt my soul. My sincere condolences to the immediate family, close friends, snd everyone that has been in contact with Michael. He was a great guy! Always so personable and funny! Rest in peace, Michael! Your work here is done.
