February 11, 1938 ~ June 12, 2021

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Loyce Rainey, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister passed away peacefully on June 12 at the age of 83, surrounded by her family. She grew up in Baton Rouge, but moved to Denham Springs as a young girl. She loved to read, she was an excellent cook, she traveled extensively and particularly loved to cruise. She had an adventurous spirit, and nothing was more important to her than her faith and her family. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and was involved for over 25 years with a prison ministry at Angola Louisiana State Penitentiary. Everyone that came in contact with her knew her to be a true Southern lady with a gentle spirit. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Earl Rainey, and her three children, Kathy Pickerell, Renee Granger (Andy), and Kerry Rainey (Sharman), 5 grandchildren, Taylor Pickerell, Chase Rainey (Hayley), Landon Rainey, Pierce Rainey, and Sarah Granger, 2 great-grandchildren, Carson Rainey and Maddie Rainey, brother, James Aronstein (Thelma), and multiple nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, James Mose and Delma Eckert Aronstein, and son-in-law, Tracy Pickerell. Visitation will be at Seale Funeral Home, 1720 S. Range Avenue, Denham Springs, Tuesday, June 15 from 5-8 p.m. Viewing will be at Seale Wednesday, June 16 10-11 a.m. with services to follow. She will be interred at the Denham Springs Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Baptist Association of Greater Baton Rouge, specifically for the Angola Prison Ministry, 10560 Airline Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA 70816. There are people we encounter, some of whom have a marked impact on our lives. Momma Loyce, of course along with Mr. Earl, Kerry, Kathy, and Renee, were such people for me, as well as for many others. So Kerry not only are you my oldest best friend, your entire family will always hold a special place to me. My deepest sympathies in your loss, and know that even in my physical absence today, you all remain constantly in my thoughts and prayers. May Philipians 4:7 become more real to each of you in every day that follows.

I am Evelyn Merchant Mougeot. Lois was my sister Almeda Merchant’s friend from High School. Almeda passed away in 2003 of Leukemia. She would have been 83 had she lived. Sorry for your loss.
