Toni Polito Baird who loved to be called “Maw-Maw Toni”, departed her loving family at the age of 78 in Baton Rouge on April 29, 2024.

Maw-Maw Toni was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge and loved her children, grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Every conversation started with “How is Coley Jane, Rowdy Jon and Keegan?” She had a love for all children! Maw-Maw Toni was retired from the East Baton Rouge School Board as an Administrative Assistant in the school system. Ms. Toni was known for buying students lunches, hiding belts, socks, and uniforms in her desk drawer at school for children that did not have one or needed a spare to ensure none of her school babies were sent home with a dress code violation or missed lunch.

Her hobbies were Cheering on the LSU Tigers with her family and fishing at the pond with her Grandson Brock Kaufman.

Ms. Toni spent many years as a Deputy Sheriff with East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office before joining the East Baton Rouge School Board. Her career at the school board allowed her to mother and grandmother many more children in need of her love and kindness.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Anthony L. “Brother” Polito and Rose Lee Polito, her son Tommy Wayne Baird, Jr., her Sister – Rosalind “Tippi” Polito, and her loving brother Donny Polito.

She is survived by her daughter Tina Kaufman Rand (Dwain), four grandchildren Blair Clouatre (Dustin), Brock Patrick Kaufman, Kristis Baird (Chelsea) & Brooke Baird, five great Grandchildren, her siblings Judy Catoire, Anthony Polito Jr, her favorite niece Donlyn Polito and her twins Dom & Zac.

A special thank you to Jean Cary for visiting weekly with Maw-Maw Toni and being a special friend and keeping our Diva’s hair fixed beautiful. The family would also like to thank the Memory Care Staff at Central Guest House & Life Source Hospice of Baton Rouge for being such a blessing.

Please join us as we Celebrate her life at Seale Funeral Home Denham Springs with visitation from

11:00 – 1:00 and a Memorial Service at 1:00 on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. Join us comfortable & casual just the way Maw-Maw Toni liked us and you are welcome to wear your favorite LSU t-shirt or Tiger Colors in her honor.

    Mothers never go away, they walk beside us every day..unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear. May you always feel her presence and love as she continues to guide you. She was a beautiful soul. Prayers for peace and comfort.
