Janis Summers Chopin, a resident of Denham Springs, passed away on Wednesday June 5, 2024, at the age of 77. Janis was born in Baton Rouge, La on June 22, 1946, to JC and Alice Ruth
Summers. Janis graduated from Denham Springs High School and was awarded a bachelor’s and master’s degree from LSU. She served as a Teacher and Librarian at various schools around the state.
She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega. Janis was a long time Member of First United Methodist Church of Denham Springs where she contributed in various ministries. She joined
the Krewe of Denham Springs in the early years it was formed and served in many roles including being named Queen in 1990.
At one time she had a multi engine pilot license. She enjoyed baking, travel, dancing, LSU football, playing piano and sewing.

Janis is survived by her son Sean Matthew Chopin, step-children and spouses Kelley M. Chopin, Mary T. Chopin, Kathy C. and Ken Guidry, Paul E. and Martha Chopin, Laura C. and Craig Ross, Mary C. and Doug Poole, Robert N. and Rhea Mae Chopin, Malies C. and Webb Warren, family friend Tammy Gascon, Grandchildren Allison Chopin (Sean Keane), Amber Chopin, Clarissa and Lamy Guidry, Hannah G. (Forrest) Friedman, Joshua (Emily), Kacey, and Mattie Chopin, Hailey, Dain, and Kiersten Ross, Amanda, Emily, and Dougie Poole, and Gabriel and Eloise Chopin, great grandson Jetson Friedman sister Sherri Becnel (Richard) and sister-in-law Kay Summers, nieces and nephews: Mark Becnel (Anita), Kim Ward (Allen), Jeff Summers (Sandi) and Josh Summers (Laura).

She was preceded in death by her husband Lamy, brother Don, parents and stepson, John Chopin.

Visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home Denham Springs, on Tuesday June 11, 2024, from 9-11 am with service at 11 am. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. Reception to follow at First United Methodist Church of Denham Springs. In lieu of flowers, please donate to FUMC of Denham Springs.

Special thanks to her wonderful caregivers – Kiki, Deborah, Pam, Melissa, Twanda and Marie. They truly showed their love for Janis in their care and support and brought fun to her life.

    Janice has been my sister’s (Jo Anne Lewis) neighbor at La Plantation since 2020 and has been a great neighbor and friend. I have also enjoyed her company and friendship when I’ve visited. We offer our most sincere condolences to her family, and will miss her very much.

    I offer up prayers and condolences for our classmate class of 1964.,Janice was always so very kind to everyone. She was very quiet but you knew her presence. God grant you peace. Many special memories will help see you through this time
